There are various sources of heat to heat terrariums. I would like to show the differences, as well as advantages and disadvantages.
Knowledge before buying:
- Glass-terrariums store not the heat as good as OSB-terrariums!
- The more substrate is in the terrarium, the more efficiently the heat is develop -> Less substrate = more watts = more power energy.
The right illuminant: - Halogenspots (GU10 & GU5.3) are more effective than normal bulbs (E14 & E27), since they can emit more heat concentrated. For this purpose they are smaller, more stable and easier to change than normal bulbs. - Halogen bulbs are ideally suitable for smaller terrariums. - Energy-saving lamps are unsuitable, because they do not generate the necessary heat, such as e.g. a halogen spotlight.
For large terrarium GU10, Bulb E14, GU5.3
(Available in all wattages/high voltage):

For small terrarium G4 & G9 pin base
(Available in all wattages/low voltage):

Positioning of the light source in the terrarium:
The spot should be fixed in the upper left corner or top right. (Even in nature, the sun shines from above and it is also important for the local maximum heat and the resulting different climate zones in the enclosure)
Example for attaching GU10/GU5.3/G4:

Those who want to save money can also buy adapters, which are available in various versions
Adapter E27 to GU10

Safety tips: - Please work conscientiously and without electricity! - Fix the light source with sufficient clearance on all sides of the terrarium and the eventual internal decoration! In OSB-Terrarium additional insulation behind the light source would be necessary sometimes. - If there are several terrariums use an approved power strip, with on-off switch! - Pay attention when purchasing the materials on quality, and be sure to the voltage level! - Please put no lampshades on a glass-terrarium.
