3rd Day: Through the Atlas Mountains to Ouarzazate

Updated: Feb 5

We survived the night well in Le panorama d'Ouzoud, which was more an apartment. Everyone had their room, plus there was a kitchen, terrace, bathroom and living room. Everything looks very nice here and we were greeted with a hearty breakfast.

Father and son were very informative about the area nearby. They brought us a plate of nuts, some of which they had harvested themselves.

After breakfast I had to take some pictures.

Opposite you could buy a few souvenirs. Cornelius bought almost 2 tagine pots of the same size. I was worried that he would get them both in the suitcase safely to Germany.

A few more impressions from the terrace.

The father told us proudly and passionately about his childhood there and where they picked the nuts. And also told us where to find a lot of scorpions.

We would have liked to stay longer but there were still many kilometers to drive. We said goodbye, got a handful of nuts to take with us and drove towards Tamda.

On the way we stopped and found...

Scorpion / Rock Agama

After 2 hours and on the way we stopped in a small town for a snack. It was just a place to drive through, a few shops on the side, a butcher and 2 cookshops with pots. We were a bit skeptical about the soup and were proudly served the Loubia.

Little did we know that we had received the best soup in the world by far. Awesome!!

Loubia

The soup was so good that we licked the plates and packed something for later.

I tried to cook it but couldn't get the taste.

Well strengthened we continued...

It was very hot but the track was a dream.

Route to Atlas Mountain

Near Tamda we found...

Scorpio sp.

So far so good - the Atlas Mountains had been reached.

It's just amazing every time.

Yellow Wagtail

With every meter you could take 1000 pictures.

Zerkten

Searching...

And other things...

Tizi n'Tichka panoramic view

It was getting darker and we had arrived in Aguelmouss / Melladi.

We waited until dark to look for Androctonus sp. Unfortunately we didn't find any. It was pitch black, no stars, no moon, the terrain was hilly and covered with bushes etc. Without a lamp you couldn't see a meter away. I remembered that very differently. Our flashlights didn't reach very far and it was more of a matter of wandering around than going to a specific spot. We only found Buthus sp. and also not much.

We drove to our hotel at Ouarzazate and found the door locked.

Bivouac Lot of Stars

We tried calling but no one could be reached. It was a real shame, we were tired, hungry and the hotel was quite cheap. Now we had to go to the more expensive and already known La Perle du Sud in Oaurzazate. Luckily there was still a room available.

We have a 5 hour drive behind us. So...

Pizza

The hotel has integrated a small disco, which we visited briefly in our outdoor clothes and treated ourselves to the first beer in Morocco. Yummy!
