5th Day: Through the Atlas Mountains to Ouarzazate

Updated: Feb 5

Finally nature and mountains again. We were very excited about the trip through the Atlas Mountains and Ouarzazate. The Route N9 is wonderful.

Just a quick breakfast early in the morning at Maison Aicha.

A little cloudy but quite warm, the route started out green and mixed with the mountains and the red earth it was a wonderful sight. We drove for 1 hour and looked around a bit.

Douar Egmire

Eryngo

Scorpion

The sun came out slowly and it went higher and higher, with a few construction sites, but every kilometer was just great. The route is very well developed. No potholes or anything else.

Tizi n'Tichka panoramic view

These lush green spots in the middle of the mountains are impressive. The air was fresh, the sun was shining and there was something very harmonious about the place. You could stay here longer.

Beetles / Darkling Beetle

A few kilometers further it went downhill again and we drove through green villages. An absolute dream!

Aguelmouss / Melladi

We stopped here to look for scorpions and to enjoy the landscape.

I asked a local and showed a few pictures on the camera because we couldn't communicate otherwise. I tapped the picture with a scorpion and then pointed to the landscape. Then he took the camera, held it up to the mountains and looked through it because he thought he would see it that way. I couldn't believe it at all and was completely amazed...cameras were not yet known here and I thought that was nice. This direct experience was very earth-shattering for me. He was a really nice man but he couldn't help us.

We started looking, after 30 minutes an elderly local came over and wanted to know what we were looking for. I showed him and he looked very determined. That was incredible. He lifted heavier stones than me.

Scorpions

We found quite a few here, all of them freshly molted or in the process of molting and another baby insect...

Camel spider

After 1 hour we were done, the sun was slowly going down. We thanked him, gave him some money and snacks and drove on to Ouarzazate.

Near Ouarzazate

We were in Ouarzazate at around half past nine. The streets, or rather the walls, trees etc. were brightly lit. That was really very nice and is shown in a video.

It was even warmer here. 32°...in Marrakesh it was 26°.

We checked in at La Perle Du Sud and went straight to Place Al-Mouahidine, because there was currently a market there that was very nice and well-arranged.

We went to the market a little quickly because we were hungry...we looked for a restaurant and had a great time there.

Restaurant Dimitri

The restaurant was very nice. Decorated with pictures of actors who ate here while they were filming. And we were lucky, because a Berber-duo made nice music...the singing and playing with the ribab was really great...also the food and drinks.

The ribab is a typical Arabic musical instrument and the 2 could play it perfectly.

Yes, and tomorrow we'll see where the actors were shooting. It goes to the film studios!
